Pregnancy Health Issues - Symptoms That Could, Or Do, Mean You Are Pregnant
Pregnancy itself is not a health problem. It is featured here because it is a time in a woman's life when there are many changes going on in her body, and within the foetus which itself has many changes happening as it grows. Needless to say, it is a time when the woman's health is of the utmost importance if she is to have a trouble free pregnancy, and the coming baby is to be born in perfect condition.
It should be remembered that no two pregnancies are the same, and what one woman experiences may not be the same as a group of other women. If you have any concerns about symptoms during pregnancy, it is important to listen to your doctor or midwife, who will keep everything in perspective. Even well meaning friends can say unhelpful things.
For example, when my wife had swollen feet and ankles, her best friend said "oh, that means you'll have a difficult delivery." It was her first pregnancy, so I had to assure her there was no such association.
Swollen feet and ankles are so common in pregnant women it is almost normal. Deliveries vary, and many of course seem difficult to the woman. It is inevitable that some women who have swollen feet will have a difficult delivery; there is no cause and effect. Your professional advisor will put things straight for you.
What Are The Symptoms of Pregnancy?
A woman may experience symptoms that cause a first time mother to think she has a problem, when in fact it is a symptom of pregnancy. An experienced Mom, or a woman educated to be alert for pregnancy symptoms, will be able to recognize such symptoms, and the likelihood she is pregnant. However, for those who are less knowledgeable, here are the common symptoms:
1. Having a Baby - The Ultimate Pregnancy Symptom
Very rarely, a girl or woman will have a baby, and claim it is a complete surprise. So, the actual birth is the first symptom. That does remove any risk of any unpleasant symptoms, but it does remove the experience of a long, exciting pregnancy. Do not expect it though. You are more likely to be one of those who has a normal pregnancy and symptoms, such as those which follow.
2. Swollen Breasts - A Sign You May Be Pregnant
Feeling tenderness in the breasts is often the first sign of pregnancy. That tenderness is usually accompanied by swelling, as the production of progesterone and estrogen increases.
3. Tiredness - Pregnancy or Something Else?
Feeling tired and listless can exist for many reasons, but a newly pregnant woman may find it a symptom of her pregnancy. It is not surprising given the number of changes that are taking place within her body.
4. Missed Period - Am I Pregnant
One of the classic symptoms of pregnancy, which can sometimes be the first sign that a woman is pregnant, is a missed period. A period can be late or appear to be missed altogether without being pregnant. However, if you normally have regular periods, it is a good sign you are pregnant.
5. Morning Sickness - Pregnancy's Dreaded Symptom
Most women, even men, have heard of morning sickness. As with any vomiting, it is no fun. Not all women suffer from morning sickness, though; those who do, may not have it in the mornings. It can occur any time of day, although morning is probably the most common. My wife had evening sickness during her pregnancy.
6. Frequent Urination - The Inconvenience of Being Pregnant
For those who suffer this in a big way, this can be the most inconvenient and disruptive part of pregnancy. Frequent can be every 10 or 15 minutes or so at its worst. In my wife's case it was her most obvious sign she was pregnant; she even missed a friend's wedding because it was 20 minute's drive away. She would never have made it.
7. Cramps and Bleeding - An Uncomfortable Pregnancy Symptom
Many women experience cramps and some bleeding early on in a pregnancy. This may be a pregnancy symptom, it may not.
8. Other Possible Pregnancy Symptoms
There are other possible symptoms that might be as a result of your being pregnant. Some women experience mood swings, some headache, plus others. Some women just know they are pregnant.
If you have any of the above symptoms then a pregnancy test is both cheap and very accurate. If it is negative, then wait a week and take another test if the symptoms have persisted, and you have not had a normal menstruation. If it is positive, then congratulations, and wishing you a trouble free and glorious pregnancy.
